Housing Assistance
 The
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) contributes considerable
resources to homeless assistance programs, nearly half of which are
used for support services. HUD encourages case managers and outreach
workers to use FirstStep to help clients who are homeless access supportive
services through mainstream programs.
The main purpose of FirstStep is to assist case
managers and outreach workers in helping their
clients access supportive services through mainstream
benefit programs. Accessing housing information
is an additional step for people who are homeless
to take in order to move toward self-sufficiency.
